MOSAIC IS... |
|
In short, mosaic consists of the gathering of small blocks of hard stones, called tesserae, by means of a mortar. The feature is juxtaposition of theses small tesserae that, depending of their colour, their seize, and their positioning, will catch the light in a specific way. |

So, hardstones (marble, granite, limestone, slate,...) glasspaste and clay make up the main materials of mosaists. To create an art piece, the artist needs at first to imagine, then break and cut, and finally assemble. Thus the mosaic is brought out from fragmentation of the materials to springing up the picture. |
